A tip of the helmet to Sean McDermott, who led a group of us on a fantastic ride to Sunrise at Mt. Rainier today. Many people think that leading a motorcycle group is easy, and all of them are wrong. In this case, 7 people on 6 motorcycles from 5 manufacturers, with rider experience levels of one year to several decades and a horsepower span from biggest to smallest bike of far more than 100 hp. To keep the group together and maintain a pace that is fun for the old pros and not too challenging for newbies on such a wide range of machinery is difficult. Having attempted this for many years, I probably enjoyed today more than anyone, because Sean was doing a great job and I was playing at the back of the group. As a bonus, Sean took us on a road out of Black Diamond (Lawton Road at that end) that neither Marv Travis nor I had ridden before, Since the two of us have been riding the roads of this area for far more than 3/4 of a century combined, that is rare! If you are planning a ride to Mt. Rainier, I would go soon - looks like the weather is about to go all winter on us - and dress warmly! Its cold in them thar hills.
