A tough day at the marathon office today at Gold Coast Marathon. Made tougher by the fact I had a genuine red hot crack at becoming national champion by setting off at 2:20 pace. It got warm out there, I blew up a bit and as I was no longer catching the top 3 AUS runners, I tried to limit the damage. To still finish in 2:26:47, my 3rd fastest time - as 1st victorian and 4th AUS and 16th overall - Im very happy for that. It is also nice to have an 8 month break until my next marathon at Lake Biwa Marathon in March. I still have plenty to learn and many years of the weekly training grind to go, but Im definitely up for the challenge. I would like to say a massive, massive thank you to all of you. Everyone one who has liked my page over the last few months, and all the cheering at races. Its what makes the weekly grind so much worth the effort. Thanks to Athletics Victoria for selecting me in what was my first state team and a big shout out to Brooks Running for their support. Our relationship is only new, but we are off to a great start. Today the racer ST racing flats were absolutely brilliant. I hope everyone got something out of today marathon, you all are heros :-) #runhappy #GCAM14
