A tribute to David New from his son, Bryan New. On June 7 2014 my dad sailed off into the sunset. As I drove him back home the sun was coming up over Monterey. With much love comes much pain. After a couple hours sleep I found myself at Monterey beach, a place that has for me been one of the best, although there are no structures or anything man made. It is because of people that make it so magical, though one of those being Dad. The fun we had and memories made learning to ski, sliding down the dam, shooting bottle rockets at Henry County, camping and all other stuff I wont mention. How could a place so simple mean so much? Its my dad I realize now that made it so special. We had a lifetime of living in those short years. It took very little money to make me happy in those days we didnt have any anyway and it didnt matter, just enough for gas and the cooler and we were set. Dad always dreamed of being a Kentucky River guide. Growing up in Monterey with all my friends and being on the River will always be precious to me. In the past few years Ive been on several trips with Dad and we enjoyed ourselves much, he was simply the greatest. Last night I found myself back on the boat ramp as the sun was setting and took this picture. When you see it, think of Dad and remember what a treasure you had. The Bible says tears may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. Im looking forward to that morning cause this night is long. My fishing trips will never be the same, but I know he will always be with me. My Dad knew I loved him because I told him every time I saw him, but this is the worse pain Ive had to endure.
