A tribute to a fallen hero – Sir Gomolemo Motswaledi On 30 august we were having youth with disability pitso, everyone was calling me left, right and centre and I felt like I had no time to rest bt I was only on duty, I had commitment to finish the pitso we started. Around 11am on the same day my dearest friend and Cde Chimdza was wheeling his wheelchair all over the place looking for me unknown to me that he is going to give me bad news! Finally he found me, he tried to sign and talk at same time, he repeated what he said “ your friend is late, Sir Gomolemo Motswaledi, I couldn’t belive it , my whole body went numb, my heart was crying, angry and bitter and all that was racing in my mind was why why why why why why and how and why now ? There was no answer! I felt like it was human earthquake in me, I was not shocked bt I was angry with His passing! The timing was wrong! I am still battling to accept the reality of it that he is resting, iam failing to accept that he has left us , I am failing to accept everything but for my mandela I can only say thank you God. Friend’s let me tell you something you never know, a project Motswaledi and I were working on ( Botswana Disability ambassadors Debate, something similar to Gabz FM Debate, we have been talking about this project for a long time, he has been mentoring me, it was only a matter of sealing the deal with him as main sponsors and other sponsors too only known to him, the wonderful thing is that every Tuesday and Wednesday night he will say “ Hi my girl , I have good news for u, all this times he always have good news about this project. It came at a time when I highlighted about political parties in Facebook that they are not inclusive of pwds in their programmes, projects and manifestos and he was the first person to inbox me followed by Dums and other BDP members sending their party manifesto when I requested for party manifestos cos it was part our project. the day before he died on 28 august we agreed to meet on Friday to agree on dates for the launch of the project and other logistics, I cant bear the fact that he has carried this project with him! I remained calm and quite as it was not easy so far. He contributed a lot in mentoring me , directing me in my leadership career as a disability human right campaigner and advocate , he showed a lot of passion and commitment to help me in the project that we wanted to start together, ooh yes he was not a man of politics alone he also have a heart for people with disabilities of this country. I love the fact that his son has a great passion for sign language. What a amazing family. In short Thank u beloved brother for your time every Tuesday and Wednesday and I am sad that we wont have those talk anymore. I wish and pray that I will find someone who has same characters as you to allow the project to start again. The Lord is good! You will live forever in my memory as u showed commitment and support to issues I point out to you. It is well with my soul! Please lets Honour Sir Gomolemo , may all disability campaigners rise every time we fall and lead by your example, this is the promise he made to me , he wanted to mentor 20 disability advocates in botswana , he wanted to see us as stars of this country, he wanted to see that even his party accommodate us , the reality of it all I told him that implementation is a problem , we have talked a lot so let us see where this will take us! That was the end of our chat on 28 August 2014.
