A true leader is not the one with the most followers, but the one - TopicsExpress

A true leader is not the one with the most followers, but the one who creates the most leaders. I read this quote in my book this morning and it struck a chord with me. So much so that I put my book down and ran to my computer as I felt the urge to write: The blessing of social media is that we are able to connect with each other globally in a matter of seconds no matter where we live, as long as we can connect to the internet. At the same time, it is also exposing our collective state of mind in regards to what we post, how we respond, and how we feel about each other. Why this quote resonates with me so strongly is that the amount of tweets I see praising and worshiping different individuals alarms me greatly. Its the same negative feeling I get when I think about how obsessive our society has become with celebrity culture and how literally anyone, regardless of substance or talent, can become a celebrity overnight. As individual people, we have to take our power back and stop defining and comparing ourselves to other people. We need to be grateful for each others greatness and be equally aware of the greatness inside ourselves. Each and every one of us is a miraculous being, and we internally possess every single quality we think we lack and instead project onto these perfect public figures. Perfection is an illusion, we all possess the same magical qualities we see in other people, we just all express ourselves differently. While I have been given the gift to communicate and express myself through music, you have been given the same gift that you express in whatever profession you have, regardless if millions of people are aware of it or not. Numbers are simply that, theyre numbers. Some of the most inspiring people I know have private and thankless jobs without consistent and excessive praise from strangers. To me, theres nothing more inspiring than meeting an individual who is kind, humble, grateful for the paycheck that barely gets them by, and still has the ability to smile and genuinely wish you a good day regardless of how tired they are. To anyone who is miserable, insecure, bored, scared, and feeling like youre stuck, its time to look inside yourself and reevaluate who you are and what you want to do in this life. You can do anything you want and have everything you want as long as you believe you can do it. Its too short to wake up another day and envy someone elses life. You are beautiful, more powerful than you think, and already have everything you need to create the life you want. Any obstacles in the way are not permanent, and any insecurities you have are other peoples negative thoughts planted inside you subconsciously. If there is any form of perfection, you are it - exactly as you are without any of the excess stuff you think you need. For those of us who are able to thrive creatively and are able to connect with a large amount of people, it is our responsibility to reciprocate that beautiful energy we are given when we create something that gives us accolades, and inspire others to look within themselves so that they can create, express, and experience who they are as well. If we are all craving a peaceful world where we can coexist as loving, happy people, I truly believe it can be achieved by taking our power back by loving and honoring ourselves just as much as we respect and love others who inspire us. We are all a team, were in this together, and I love you
