A true story of motherly love & the circle of life... 74 days - TopicsExpress

A true story of motherly love & the circle of life... 74 days ago, a mama turtle crawled some 60 ft on the the State Park beach, dug her nest and laid eggs. She was able to cover the eggs before the coyotes arrived. Emma, as she was later named had been bitten by a shark at some point in her life and was missing a large chunk of her shell, leaving her vulnerable to a coyote attack. Emma could have taken that 60 ft crawl back into the water, but diverted the three coyotes away from her nest and dragged her large body over 800 ft down the beach all while enduring their vicious attack. When the early morning turtle patrol made their morning walk, they found Emma, chased the coyotes away and called for help. Emma was taken to the hospital where she later died. The nest was laid below the high tide line and had to be moved. As the volunteers were relocating the nest, it was already beginning to fill with water. They described it as digging in soup for the eggs. During the last few days as the nest was monitored, very little activity was detected, leaving little hope for Emmas babies. As the excavation began, everyone was very quite until the first baby was found. The group cheered and then began to count as 43 baby turtles were rescued from their nest! Emmas sacrifice was not in vain and her life lives on. Thank you to Share the Beach for this wonderful experience. tinyurl/pg6dbx3 https://facebook/photo.php?v=846481578696550&set=vb.100000041488034&type=2&theater
