A truly gifted songwriter as well as a successful recording artist, Andy Kim had several hits between 1968 and 1971 but by 1974 he had been without a record label for a year and hadnt had a hit in 3 years. He decided to use his own money to finance the recording session for Rock Me Gently (which he also wrote). The executives at Capital Records were so impressed they signed him to a deal and... 40 years ago this week he reached that coveted spot on the music charts; he had the #1 song. Trivia: Andy Kim also co-wrote Sugar, Sugar by The Archies.
