His main instrument is the 7-string guitar which he uses both for solo performances and to accompany singers, but he does not shy away from the standard 6-string guitar, both electric and acoustic. A versatile guitarist, he has played in rodas de samba (samba circles), television programmes in Brazil (Inglês com Música) and many private events. In 2008, he was the support for the highly acclaimed Tânia Maria. As his musical influences he cites the works of Garoto, Dilermando Reis, João Pernambuco and Canhoto, all accomplished Brazilian composers of the 20th century. Rafael has performed solo and with bands (rock, funk, pop and more) in Brazil, Portugal, the UK and the Czech Republic. In the UK, he has played in London’s famous Ronnie Scott’s, Guanabara, Brunel Museum, as well as in Nottingham.
