A very dear FB friend (only wish we were more than virtual ones), Kelly Sargent writes a great blog. This is an excerpt from one such blog dealing with WW II vets and even in the smallest way, how they are sometimes, forgotten. I was in Chicago at FMI. As shows go, its a monster. You can wear yourself out just from walking from one massive pavilion to another. Paul and I have worked enough trade shows for ourselves and clients, to know how exhausting they are. By the time its over, you dont care if you never see another customer or prospect again in your life, and all you can think about is getting the heck out of there as fast a possible. Nevertheless, I was shocked to learn those gorgeous flowers in the Borgen cases were thrown out after shows because its faster and easier to pitch them than to spend any time saving them. I had an aha moment; it dawned on me that I might have stumbled upon an opportunity to do a good thing for veterans. I convinced show labor and our booth staff to save our flowers for a local Veterans Hospital so they could be given to patients. I had a number of conversations with hospital administration about a flower lift, and the hospital scheduled one of their trucks to pick them up after the show. I was thrilled that we had created a win/win/win situation: flowers not wasted, hospital rooms brightened, but most importantly, vets honored. Woohoo!
