A very good interview by Semen Semenchenko, the commander of a volunteers battalion in Eastern Ukraine. A modern war has three sides. One side is what people see: generals planning military operations, soldiers shooting etc. The second side is invisible: it is a peculiar kind of war-related corruption, a massive theft, embezzlement, other illegal actions of greedy opportunists. The third side is also invisible: it is the battle of thoughts, of meanings. Ukraine was not prepared for this kind of war. Our enemy spreads lies and nasty rumors about us, while we just passively watch them do it. I have already told my wife that soon, the Russians will spread rumors that while my battalion is busy executing POWs, I rape little kids. If I hear this rumor, Ill tell them that I also eat little kids alive.
