A very happy 11th birthday to our sweet Koda Bear! Shes the true head of our house, the pack matriarch & the foster mommy to all of the critters & kids that have come through our house, which earned her the title,Saint Bermommy. Shes deaf, has arthritis & is half blind now because of cataracts, but she still has her wits about her. While shes stiff in the mornings & doesnt move as quick as she used to (like the rest of us as we age), she still enjoys bothering the chickens, treeing cats & bossing around the younger dogs. She has survived a couple brushes with death where we were advised to put her to sleep because she was too old. She has been a faithful & loyal friend to me through divorce, the loss of my parents, hard times when I didnt know how I would feed both of us (she got the good food while mommy ate Ramen noodles) & has been my shoulder to cry on when no one else was there for me. Shes the best friend & companion anyone could hope to have. A big, furry, stinky drool bucket with a heart as big as she is and the soul of an angel. Shes everyones BFF & the 1st one to greet you when you come to the house, even though you can tell it hurts her to get up and say hi these days, she never fails to make you feel welcome. Our other dogs trained so easily because Koda took them in as pups & smacked them down when they got out of line & didnt listen. Shes nursed abandoned kittens back to health. I wish I could take credit for how well trained & behaved she is, but shes always just instinctively known how to be wonderful without me having to do much of anything with her. My hubby wouldnt have made it past our 1st date if Koda hadnt approved, but she fell in love with him right away and almost didnt let him take me out because he was petting her head & every time he stopped, she smacked him with a big, huge paw. I got her when she was 8 weeks old & 8 pounds from a breeder in Michigan. I had gone up to get another pup, but Koda wouldnt leave me alone & stole my heart. She rode the whole way home in my lap with her head tucked under my arm sleeping & hasnt left my side since. She stays up all night watching over me when Brad works night shift and wont rest until hes home. She wont eat if were not there because she feels she has to patrol the house for us. You can see the look of relief on her face when we do return home because she can finally eat & take a nap. LOL We are so proud of our big, sweet loveable Koda Bear & shes the most spoiled dog in the world. Daddy brought her home a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich from Tim Hortons this morning for a birthday breakfast treat & she will be dining on a steak this evening cooked just for her. We absolutely love this girl & couldnt imagine our lives without her in it. Happy 11th birthday, sweet girl! Youre the most awesome dog on the face of the planet!
