A very important discussion came up this morning about the lighting of the football field. We were talking about ways and possibilities in which we may go about in such a venture. The Two things we looked at is the possibility of using solar power and wind turbines as we all know that the cost of running high powered night lights would be very expensive as for some reason our fuel surcharge is higher than the actual usage. Sitting here i realized an even more cost effective solution, the use of a diesel generator. In actuality the cost of setting up a solar grid large enough to power the stadium and lights for games may run over 30k before one even begins to think about buying the actual lights that could cost another 15k to 20k if one wants good lighting equipment (hope someone could suggest a less costly but good enough light system). Sitting here looking for solutions to such a venture to create a reasonable proposal, i remembered back in September Spain was going to play a world cup qualifier against Belarus when a generator exploded, then it hit me that we could use a generator to power the lights and cut that 30k costs down to about 5k for a 40kw (40000w) 3 phase generator which should be able to power the lights and stadium. There are a lot of advantages to playing soccer at night not only for the players but also for the spectators both neutrals and fans supporting their respective teams. Children would also love the nights of football and would ultimately raise the standard of football here in Bequia. Any input will be really good to have, solution and ideas alike. Looking forward to your feed back and discussion.
