A very interesting question that Ive wondered for years: When DID the phrase Like a girl become an insult? Ok, so that phrase was one of the biggest insults in one of my favorite movies, (Sandlot, Im looking at you), but I always felt that was the mindset of the era and genre that piece of fiction portrayed. You want to see someone play ball like a girl? Play a game of soccer with my sister Erin Brennan Willis. She will DESTROY you, AND have amazing-looking hair and flawless make-up on while she does it. Want to see someone hit like a girl? Piss off my sister Kathleen Brennan. She will leave you on the ground gasping for air wondering if anyone thought to jot down the license plate of the truck that just slammed into you. I tell my daughter all the time: get rid of limits. You never know what you can do, so never automatically assume you cant do it. And if you cant, its ok. But, never strike out before you even get up to the plate.
