A very old post of mine in a discussion group: Well, I posted this a while ago, as to what are the best energy sources and which is the largest impact you can do as an individual: 16a)The rest of the Biosphere (environment) The best sources of energy vis a vis the effect on the Biosphere in a very general way (yes, we humans ARE also included!!!) 1) Conservation (use less or more efficiently) 2) Solar 3) Wind 4) Geothermal 5) Hydroelectric (no inundation of biomass) 6) Biofuels (no clearing of arable land) 7) Nuclear (no new digging of uranium) 8) Natural Gas 9) Oil 10) Coal 16b)The rest of the Biosphere (environment) What is the LARGEST impact that YOU can make (excluding the basic needs) in a very general way?. 1) Children 2) Car 3) Eating confined animal feeding operation meat and milk 4) Large house 5) Pet 6) etc and 16c)The rest of the Biosphere (environment) In a nutshell, what are the challenges in the world? 1) Overconsumption by developed countries 2) Overbreeding by developing countries Need a two pronged strategy in general (details may differ): a) Reduce consumption in developed countries b) Reduce population in developing countries Otherwise, we will have c) Natural selection (in reality human selection in some way, because we have so altered the planet) in all its glory: genocide, ecocide, xenocide, disease, hunger, war, etc. As a Darwinist I do NOT wish Natural selection to occur. --------------------- The biggest problem though, is that if we do not agree as to the problems facing humanity, how can we agree on solutions? In other words, as an analogy, if MDs can not agree to the disease of a patient, they surely will not agree as to the cure!
