A very special encounter between a mother harp seal, her pup, a camerawoman and some aggressive male seals. The mother seal carefully coaxed her pup off the ice floe and into the sea, allowing the photographer to share the special moment. They swam along together, the pup even climbing on top of the woman. The connection between them was made. Suddenly, a group of male seals, jealous of the diver for the attentions of their female seal, started biting and attacking her. A big male harp seal scrabbled up and over the womans back pushing her underwater and ripping her mask off. There was an eruption and blur as the female harp seal dove down and battled the male as pup and diver huddled together watching from above. The woman was shocked when the mother began to push the pup and her through the water using her body, head and flippers to guide and propel them. She admits to having been a skeptic of animals-saving-human stories, but no more. Not when the female harp seal didnt just save her pup, but the human as well, by physically moving them away from the aggressive males circling below.
