A very special music memory for my beautiful mama, Clarice Skyles, my entire life my mama has told me I am so much like my uncle Snook her younger brother and best friend growing up, I listened to every story and start my days with his saying the hell you bellers and every morning here with my mom when I would say that she would tell me another Snook story, she asked me to find her memory book of him back in her room and everyday for the past month I have looked for it and finally found it... As I sit here next to my beautiful mama sleeping I have been reading all about my Uncle Snook, he died in Korea Dec 2, 1950, in this book are all his photos, his letters to her, the newspaper clippings of his death, his memorial service cards but the most heart wrenching were all the letters my mom sent and the letters returned to her in her search for news of her brother, what happened to him, where he died, where is his body, why havent they heard anything about his return, well almost 5 years after his death his body was returned. I never understood until tonight just how hard that was on my mom, she loved her little brother, and the day she got word of his death, her world stopped, and her fight began to get his body home. He had only been married 10 days when he got recalled to the army and died 2 months after that, his wife gave my mom his Purple Heart, and my mom gave it to her brother Bob for his son Robbie. For Christmas I asked Robbie if we could borrow it for this part of moms journey, it is pinned to her prayer bear and she holds it as we pray every night, until tonight reading her memory book of Snook I didnt understand the depth of love and loss she had for her brother and her plight to find out what happened to him and get his body returned home. thank you cousin Robbie Tibbits, for lending us his Purple Heart, thank you my sister Ginny Skyles for taking mom to Korea many years ago to see the land that her brother gave his life for and where he took his last breath, that trip meant the world to her. It took almost 5 years to get him home, thank you to the crew of that angel flight for bringing her brother home in 1955
