A very subdued Jean-Luc Godard on Dick Cavetts show back in 1980. He is promoting EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF which was in many ways his return to (a kind of) narrative filmmaking after the radical experiments of the 1970s that He made with the revolutionary Dziga Vertoz collective. This is one of Godards best English language interviews. Cavett asks some annoying questions (particularly the why do the French like Jerry Lewis questions). Godards comment about the gender of the critics is the first sign that even in subdued form he will be making some political commentary. Here He is commenting on the fact that the US critical was (and still is) overwhelmingly male something that was (and is) more balanced in a European context. Notice that Cavett responds by basically saying He doesnt notice gender when He is reading!! At the time the New York Film Critics Association only had 3 women members. https://youtube/watch?v=KjiK5FfbCtE
