A very summerlike airmass in the Wiregrass today lead to some - TopicsExpress

A very summerlike airmass in the Wiregrass today lead to some short lived pulse thunderstorms that were briefly severe and lead to some trees down near Samson in Geneva County. The storms have died out, and any rain will too as we get closer to sundown. We do have more stormy weather in our forecast, but not until Wednesday night and Thursday. Tonight, well see some areas of fog and a partly cloudy sky. Lows will fall to the upper 60s with lots of humidity. Tuesday will be another day like today, however rain chances will be limited as high pressure at the surface and in the upper levels of the atmosphere limit any sort of convection from forming storms. Highs will once again get to 90 with lots of sun and summerlike humidity. A storm system approaches from the west during this time, setting up our storm chances for midweek. An upper level trough (low pressure area) will move slowly across the Midwest and will continue eastward on Wednesday. This will put us in a very favorable area to see t-storms pop up much like they did today, with high pressure sliding away. There is a marginal chance for some of these storms to be strong or severe, with the main threat being strong winds. Thursday a cold front swoops in and better rain chances show up with another chance for strong to marginally severe weather. Without the severe weather threat, looks like our area could pick up another 1-2 of rain out of this midweek event. By Friday and the start of the weekend we clear out and cool down significantly, with highs only in the upper 70s and near 80.
