A new high has entered the Great Australia Bight and will strengthen as it remains relatively stationary and extends a strong ridge across east Queensland on Wednesday. An upper low will most likely develop over the Great Australian Bight on Tuesday and move northeast into South Australia and strengthen on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Fine and mostly clear across most of the state, with only isolated showers about the east tropical coast. Mostly moderate east to southeast winds over the north of the state, fresh at times along the east tropical coast. Mostly moderate southeast to southwest winds over the remainder. Monday 11 August Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state with only isolated showers about the east tropical coast and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Clear skies overnight may lead to a light frost about the parts of the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt district. Mostly moderate south to southeast winds increasing to fresh to strong over the east coast. Tuesday 12 August A strong high over the Great Australian Bight will extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast as it continues to slowly move east. A moist onshore flow will lead to possible showers along parts of the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist elsewhere. Clear skies overnight may lead to a light frost about the parts of the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt district. Wednesday 13 August The strong high over the Great Australia Bight will continue to build a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. Moisture will also extend from the coast further into the interior of the state. An upper trough is likely to strengthen into an upper low and move towards the southwest of the state, and produce some isolated and scattered showers further inland through the southern and central interior. Thursday 14 August The upper low will most likely move over far southwestern Queensland and deepen a surface trough extending across western Queensland. Moistening low level flow on the eastern side of the trough should lead to increasing shower activity through the central inland and southwest; if the trough deepens sufficiently, this activity may spread to rain areas and isolated thunderstorms late in the day and evening. Meanwhile, the strong high over the Great Australia Bight will continue to extend a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated to scattered showers about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. _______________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - The chance of light showers near the coast during the morning.
