A volunteer writes: Diamond is an elderly gal who was found as a stray. I have this wishful thinking she could have escaped her owners.. I doubt so, sadly... She is old, thin, had her share of litters, calluses, long and hard nails, an infected entropion and a crusty nose... Her coat is well kept, though. She seems so tired, sleeping like a log in her arrival kennel. Diamond...I am a friend. Would you like to go out? Diamond gets up, gets leashed without say and off we go for a walk. She eliminates as soon as we are out of the building. Her den is clean... She trots well although with a slight limp on the right side. She nears other dogs without fuss. After our walk, Diamond and I settle in a pen. She does a lot of sniffing. Indeed, the yard is full of scents.. She is rather aloof, hard to photograph. I keep talking to her. She circles me coming closer and closer, accepting caresses on the way. Eventually, I hold her head in my hands and our eyes meet... Later in the day, before to leave for home, I took Diamond for a second walk. The ice was broken... She took a soft treat and after a short walk when she relieved herself, she sat comfortably between my legs for a petting session. I was glad to have brought a little bit of comfort to her life...Diamond is with us at the Manhattan Care Center. Older pets do come with their issues but can make wonderful companions for those of us who seek calm but loving friends. Wishing upon a star.
