A wander down vine street , today lets us look at whats left of another area , known only to well to myself and afew of you guys on here , the stone steps , now worn made for a hard but pleasant seating area , in the evening as a kid , , we,d sit and swap tales on these steps , before playing hide and seek during the black outs of -1976 or someone would bring a transistor radio out ,and we,d listen to the top ten on a sunday evening , , masons , fieldings , ormrods , just a few of the names that spring to mind when I think back on the some of the families that lived along here or up and down this street , there were houses facing the ones up the steps , which have since been demolished also vine street garage , which stood on the corner , across from the steps , I am adding two images below co - of the P-D-A , and the Preston historical society , which show the street in -1950 , all cobbled , with a young lad running around and also a colour image circa - 1984 , looking once more across towards the steps ....... ......The houses were originally built for the railway and mill workers with in the area , and have stood the test of time very well , .although the street no longer boasts cobbles , I can still see it as it was , years ago , Image -5 , shows finally a view back towards st marks school , on mill street , it felt quite strange taking these images and leaning once more on the railings , gone now all the kids I knew , with their snotty noses , torn clothes , and weather beaten faces , like I said strange , and a little sad .....
