A ward level Farmer’s Training held at Lower Syari by Mevedir under Sikkim Organic Mission Date: 20th Oct 2014 Venue: Lower Syari, Syrai, East Sikkim A Ward Level Farmer’s Training was held at Lower Syari under Syari Gram Panchayat Unit in East Sikkim, the training was organized by Mevedir, a service provider for organic certification based at Tadong, Gangtok in collaboration with Sikkim Organic Mission Cell, FS&ADD and HCCDD, Govt. of Sikkim. A total of 25 farmers from Lower Syari ward were present in the training program. Mr. Arpan Lama of Mevedir Company welcomed the participants and informed the farmers about the objective of the training and its topic ‘Pest management in Organic Farming”. He also informed the farmers about the various Govt. schemes in support of Organic farming announced by Hon’ble C.M Dr. Pawan Kr Chamling and encouraged the farmers to take agriculture as one of the main source of income in coming days. In the next session Ms. Sita Devi Rai Field Officer of Mevedir showed the demonstration for preparation of Activated Effective Micro-organism (AEM) from Effective micro-organism-1(EM-1)to the farmers. She informed the farmers about the usages of AEM in organic farming for composting of manure, feeding of animal and preparation of Fermented Plant extract (FPE). Mr. Anup Rai Senior Field Supervise addressed the issues regarding the pest & disease problems of the field. He imparted knowledge to the farmers about the control of red ants by matka trap, White grub by light trap, and other insects by Cultural, mechanical, physical and biological etc. Mr. Phurba Tshering Lepcha President of Farmers Interest Group (FIG) Lower Syari also addressed in the meeting where he told the farmers, a big opportunity may be created for farmers of Sikkim in future but at the same time the responsibilities of the farmers, service provider and Government has increased henceforth and everyone should take it seriously for the bright future of farming sector in Sikkim. The program was also graced by Field Assistant, Agriculture, Shri. Gangaram Chettri HCCDD. Govt. of Sikkim. Positive feedback was received from the farmers at the concluding session of the program.
