A warning to all land owners in the Town of Scott... We recently - TopicsExpress

A warning to all land owners in the Town of Scott... We recently noticed that 17 of our mature (but dead) elm trees at the edge of our land were cut down. All of the firewood was taken. When we contacted the township chairman, he informed us that he instructed to have those cut down because they were a hazard. He said the person who cut them did not get paid, but keeps the wood, so there was no way for us to get it back. Since when do townships get to make a decision about a property without the owners consent? He said they werent sure whose land it was or who to contact. Well they sure dont have a problem finding us when its time to pay taxes! We plan to build a house on this property this spring and were going to use the wood for our outdoor furnace. How disappointing that it is gone because an elected official decided they had the authority to let someone come on our land and take something that wasnt theirs to give. We had already gotten an estimate from a licensed tree service to have them cut down, while allowing us to keep the wood. If the township feels trees are hazardous, the land owners should first be notified and given an opportunity to remove them before sending someone else to do it. Very disappointing...
