Some anonymous tip-offs helped officers on their way to detecting 784 drivers for breaking the law and endangering lives on Scotlands roads. Of that figure, 310 were found to have no insurance and 245 did not have a valid MoT certificate. A further 129 drivers were found to be committing driving licence offences, while 100 were caught drink or drug driving. Some 179 of these drivers also had their vehicle seized. The crackdown, supported by Police Scotland, was launched by the Crimestoppers charity last Monday. The project aimed to steer criminal drivers off the road with the support of information provided by the public.
