A week before Christmas, I was very pleased to welcome to Athlone, - TopicsExpress

A week before Christmas, I was very pleased to welcome to Athlone, Jobs Minister Richard Bruton; CEO of the IDA, Martin Shanahan, and CEO of Enterprise Ireland, Julie Sinnamon. All three were keynote speakers at the Midlands Regional Enterprise Forum, which discussed the strengths and opportunities that can be built upon to support enterprise and jobs growth in the Midlands. The forum, held in the Sheraton Hotel, brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from the pharma, manufacturing and retail sectors; LEO clients; community-based enterprises; commercial state bodies, Failte Ireland and Athlone IT. The forum is part of the consultative process which will feed into the Government’s regional jobs action programme; a programme which will specifically target the regions to ensure they benefit as much as possible from the economic recovery. I’m delighted that Minister Bruton has selected the Midlands, which includes Westmeath and Longford, as the pilot for the first of these regional job action programmes. The Midlands strategy is due to be rolled out in early 2015. (Also pictured on the extreme left in the first picture is Johnny OSullivan, General Manager, Sheraton Hotel, Athlone).
