A well articulated argument for the need for exponents of Classical arts such as Bharatanatyam to explore themes beyond the well-known and widely performed mythological stories. The art will continue to live within a community that has a sentimental attachment to the "pure" form but to truly broaden its reach will require its practitioners to use its magnificent grammar and vocabulary to tell stories of contemporary and universal appeal. Kudos to Savitha Sastry - an artist with strong convictions and the courage to act on them.
