A while ago I posted about my male cat that was having litter box issues...I was thinking about transitioning him from an indoor to an indoor/outdoor cat. I was seeking advice/suggestions. The details: 8 year old male cat pooping outside the litter box (only poop...no pee...other rooms) about once a week on average for over a month now. No new cat or animals. 2 cats & 3 litter boxes (1 being automatic). Hed already been to the vet. Unfortunately, I didnt get the vet I prefer. The vet didnt check his temp...only did a physical exam & determined it to be behavioral. It was suggested to me to have the vet specifically check his anal glands to verify they are not impacted. I took him back to the vet. His weight was down from 14 lbs to 11 lbs. He had impacted anal glands with blood in them...suggesting an infection. The vet gave him an antibiotic shot & oral antibiotics to take. He seems to be feeling much better...so far so good. He hasnt not used the litter box in about a week. Fingers crossed hopefully this will fix this issue. I did get the wheat free cat food. They dont seem to like it, so Im putting out two kinds of cat food. With him losing 3 lbs, I feel bad about trying to force him to eat something else. A big thanks to everyones suggestions. There is a cat only vet in Madison. Im seriously thinking about giving her a try. I am not a cat expert...thats why I go to the vet. Im not impressed with mine at the moment. Apparently, cats tend to hide illnesses better than dogs, so you really have to know what could be wrong with them. Apparently, cats rarely get impacted anal glands, but I feel like its something the first vet should have known to look for.
