A while ago a client asked me to assess her dog... Issue as stated by owner: Hyper, restless, destructive and suffers from acute seperation anxiety. Now, my approach being a holistic one, I take a good look at all aspects of a dogs life.. Upbringing, nutrition, exercise, household environment, canine & human interaction, and so on. Upbringing and Canine/ human interaction - good upbringing and also good interaction. Exercise - needed to fine tune a bit by adding more daily walks and adding a couple of off lead runs per week. Household environment - this needed some working as dog was stuck to anyones thats at home 100% of the time. Dogs need to learn independence from their humans while their humans are at home too, apart from the fact that they need to rest for more than 50% of tge total hrs in a day (total rest), tgis cannot be achieved with a dog stuck like glue to his humans. Nutrition - this unfortunately needed some major changes. Dog was being fed rubbish for his meals, rubbish as treats and other rubbish as scraps. Meals where based on dog food with very high grain and carbihydrate content, treats didnt include any meat worthy of note while scraps where mostly bread and the odd piece if fat from meat dishes. Diet changed to conform with the dogs natural requirements of 80% meat (including up to 15% organ meat) and 20% of bones, veg and fruits. Treats changed to fried liver and commercially available dried meats. Scraps are still added but only when there are any that are beneficial to their dog. 4 months down the line: Thanks a million, we have a completely different dog now! Hes calmer, happier and more responsive. Happy dogs = happy humans
