A while back I lamented that there was no good modern pop music like there was back in the 80s. Since then, Ive been scouring the modern music scene (from 2001 to today) for any real bright jewels burning the cold, dark sky of the modern pop scene. My first choice was the encouraging BREATHE. My second is a sad farewell song (if youve lost someone recently, this may be hard to hear) called NOW COMES THE NIGHT by Rob Thomas. Beautiful, moving, simple and classic - this piece embodies exactly what I want from a modern classic pop song. I like how it ends - too short - too suddenly, like a life cut off before its time.
