A while back I read a report from the Dept of Health in England stating that in their research, due to the processing and roasting of coffee, it has virtually no toxins whether organic or not. (Even organic products are allowed minimal amounts) This making coffee a clean food product. From the personal health point, its good news. From the environmental point, you should still try to buy organic or sustainably grown coffee and other foods. Most small growers prefer not to use pesticides as they know the environmental and bean quality consequences and its also very expensive. So they use it very, very sparingly. The following link an update to my previous research. coffeereview/coffee-reference/coffee-and-health/pesticides-and-chemicals/
