A while back there was a discussion about Port Arthur Lumber on Mission Island (once called Island No. 2). Ive done a bit of digging .... This image is from its 1st incarnation as the Fort William Starch Works - but by 1923 it was bought out by Canada Starch. It opened for business on 12 March 1914 using 125 men to produce cornstarch and glucose. The cost of the plant was $750,000. The elevator held the corn. At start up they were producing 2 rail cars a day of starch/glucose. Im still on the trail of this one - love the buildings!
