A winter storm. Red sky at morning...sailor take warning. We had this beautiful red sky when we awoke earlier in the week, this is what we saw from our bed. Thursday we were blessed with 12 inches of snow in less than 12 hours. For some reason I didnt take a picture if that. It was too cold and wet I guess. Yesterday it rained about a foot which brought the river level way up. Today the sun is out and Fender and I went walking in a winter wonderland. Fender carries his treasures along our walking path all summer long. He carries one treasure, drops it and pucks up another and so on. Today he was surprised to find his treasures solidly frozen to the ground. His incredible nose could smell his treasures thru the snow and he tried to dig them up but the ground was too hard. He had to settle for rolling over the frozen grave instead. He did manage to dig up a piece of week old carrot he had left by the wayside. No sulking for this puppy he happily decided to bound thru the bitterbrush and explore this new terrain. We saw some of our animal friends had ventured out as well. It was 9 degrees when we went out at 7 am. At 11 it really warmed up to a nice comfy 14 degrees (Fahrenheit course :). In Central Oregon it really does not feel that cold. The humidity is low and we are close to the sun at 4200 feet so the sun warms you nicely. We saw some small doe tracks, large buck tracks, bunny tracks and squirrel tracks. Phil Davis filled the bird feeder for the cute little chickadee snow birds that showed up and he has been working hard to get our wood in for the winter. Good job Phil!! He is a perfectionist even at wood stacking. So we will warm ourselves by the fire and dream of the spring when the meadow is clear, the sun is shining and the river runs freely.
