A winter’s day reveals a lonely weed growing through a thick layer of mulch. Against all odds this weed continues its struggle to survive. This poem suggests such displays of tenacity surround us and even might serve to inspire us in our daily individual struggles. Title: Aspiring Weed Aspiring weed why does the world not see your worth? Instead they seek to rid your presence. While most gardens, you will not grace abundant you grow, in wildest of place. Yet still, you often encroach in subtle ways a repeating mantra spurs you forward ‘Out of nothing, will something grow.’ A defiant rebel, against all of man’s push you breach the boundaries set, to curtail and contain No cement or asphalt expanse safe, from your advance. Aspiring weed why does the world not see your worth? Do their eyes sorely miss, an obvious sign? You contain the best of man, in your rooted self. Your desire to persevere, to rise above and shine in light is the very same echo, found in man’s plight. Baidha © 2014 Baidha Fercoq All Rights Reserved Photo credit: dianadyer
