A woman conceives after Bite alteration - Jim Jecmen The woman who came to see me says Ive had the pain and tension for years, I try to be positive, overlook it but it interferes with my life and marriage of 9+ years. Well I examined her, noted the mandible to be slightly off center, nothing major. Headaches often severe around nasion, a tip off that this may be maxilla/sphenoid involvement. Pretty face but bent with rotation, shes in good physical condition, no neurosis observable...just a great person, the ones we are lucky to get. So I note there is a missing upper first molar, taken out long ago as the second and third have now tipped forward. That was okay when I went to dental school. NOBODY said it wasnt in my school, but then they didnt treat CMD. So I did some cranial to assess the mechanism, part of my diagnosis, put a piece of paper between the jaws to see what that did (my temporary splint) and set her for ortho records. I explained what my interpretation was. She seemed fine with what I explained. She was never able to conceive though she badly wanted children. We just resigned to our bad fortune and life goes on she said. So we started the lingual appliances I use and I do set acrylic pads as needed to modify dentition and get the skull to do what I need. I rely on positioning the mandible correctly using a small acrylic overlay often, talking to ligaments, fascia, muscle groups etc to employ their assistance in putting correct dimensional forces in the skull so that the shifts they need will happen with cranial releases, elastics, lingual appliances, etc. Two months later she comes in smiling, doing back and forward flips simultaneously. I dont have headaches, no neck pain, no suboccipital pain, and most incredible of all Im pregnant. I knew Id changed the second month in treatment, somehow I knew my prayers were overly answered. Has a healthy boy. A few months later, treatment going great, she says I have a favor to ask. What is it? Im pregnant with twins. Would you turn off whatever it is you turned on...I need more time with the first. We laughed a lot during treatment and she had the healthy twins. Amazing stuff. There are hundreds of such stories, and certainly many sad ones because of the learning curve, the unlearning, the move to anatomy and physiology, the resistance from wit
