A woman who attended todays funeral said she appreciated the service and message. She said, I heard about you, but didnt expect you to be as young and beautiful as you are. We giggled and I told her I was happy to have surprised her in that way. Shes not the first person to intimate that. People mostly believe you cant have certain concurrent and positive attributes. So, here women like me come and folks are confused. Ministry is difficult at times because people who dont know what to expect of me then try to fill in the gaps. Im in a male-dominated field and that just heightens presumptions about many things. And as human nature would have it, some express their assumptions with more grace than others. I think all women want to be seen, beyond the hats they wear. We want to be appreciated as unique and valuable individuals, beyond what we look like and/or do.Thats my heart, as I navigate these mean ministry streets; that folks give ME a chance. #beautyANDanointing #iamnotmyhats
