A wonderful adopter update! We adopted dog Zachary from your shelter on 4/15/2011. What a dog! a very happy and frisky guy, but very calm and tolerant, too. Zach is a fine companion animal, and has brought us an enormous amount of joy. He was a handful at first, pulling on the leash, barking at every dog we met. So we took lots of long walks and got him into obedience class. Basic family dog, intermediate (lots of heeling), better impulse control, better recall class, and finally advanced class leading to the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam which Zach passed on 12/13/2014. He is registered to start Therapy Dog training later this month. Zach seems to perk up a lot when we get to dog class, he really seems to enjoy it. (We use lots of bait. Lots.) When I get out the tote bag with his mat for class, he dances around. In January 2014 we built a stouter backyard fence and a built a smaller, very secure dog pen within it, and signed up with Chatham Animal Rescue and Education (CARE) in PIttsboro to be a volunteer foster family. So we regularly get new foster dogs into the house to train and find homes for Zach is a perfect host to these foster dogs, and he is a big help showing these dogs where to go to the bathroom and how to behave in the house, in the car, and on the leash. His calmness is contagious. He overlooks the most impolite behavior. He is a wonderful dog. And he is gorgeous. Thank you for all you do! Kathleen Bynum, NC Karla Jo Milholland look at Zachary!
