A wonderful day visiting great uncle Charles, great auntie Jan and great-great Auntie Flossie. Was proud of them all. Seb spoke beautifully clear and held his own conversations and, as usual, had impeccable manners. The boys were fascinated by the bees in the garden that were supposed to be sleeping in their hives but were still buzzing about as its been so mild and they enjoyed their pre-Christmas Christmas dinner. It struck me when we left how the kids were treated exactly equally. No different to each other whatsoever. Just 3 siblings. Downs syndrome wasnt mentioned once and conversations revolved around how Seb was doing at school, how Dominic is getting on at pre-school, how Polly is a bit of a daredevil, each of their likes and dislikes, and so on. As we left, they each earned themselves the same amount of pocket money from their great-great Aunt who had enjoyed their company. And i cant help feeling how incredibly lucky we are to be living in a time of inclusion. A time when it wouldnt cross anyones mind, in my family anyway, to treat Seb any differently to his siblings. In fact, he is just seen as Seb. Nothing more, nothing less. It kills me to think of a time and space when he may have been sent away to live apart from his family - immediate and extended. Nothing was said or done today that would suggest Seb is anything but a great nephew, just the same as his brother. A great, great nephew in fact!
