A wonderful letter - and a reminder on why speaking out - and asking for change at the Lost Dogs Home comes in many forms. Here is a letter from a Vet at the Sydney Cats and Dogs Home. FYI. To our partners, We’re sure you have all seen the recent coverage about The Lost Dogs Home in Melbourne. For those who haven’t, a formal investigation into housing conditions and the euthanasia rate at the North Melbourne Lost Dogs Home has just been launched by the Victorian Government. This investigation comes after multiple social media campaigns which included a petition that was started on January 16, and has almost 10,000 signatures. There was also a plan for a rally by animal rescue groups and the community. Watching the coverage yesterday, I felt so proud to work for this organisation. At Sydney Dogs and Cats Home we are a COUNCIL POUND that DOESNT place a time limit on any of our animals awaiting adopting. Not ever. We are rare, which we have always known, but yesterday’s announcement by the Victorian Government brought to light just how rare we really are. It costs a fortune to care for animals and re-home them in their own time. Nursing many back to health, working with others to overcome fears and anxieties. Money well spent in our opinion, and we would never have it any other way. As one of the 10 councils that utilise our services, we hope that you too are proud. Proud of the work we do, and proud that YOU TOO work for an organisation that values the animals of your community. If the coverage from Melbourne has taught us anything it’s that the world of animal welfare is changing….finally…for the better. High euthanasia rates and low levels of care just won’t cut it anymore. The community has spoken. And now our Government is speaking out too. Every healthy, treatable, social, animal deserves a second chance. At our Home, that’s exactly what they get, and thanks to you, your community can rest easy knowing that they have a compassionate council that is in tune with the people, and working to make a brighter tomorrow for every lost an abandoned animal that enters our care. Thank you for your ongoing support. Warm regards, Dr Christine Cole & the team at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home
