A wonderful message from a listener... I wanted to let you guys know how grateful I am for all that you and Stefan have done for me and others like me! I have successfully quit my Marijuana addiction which has been going on for the last five, maybe six years. It has been 7 days now, since I decided to give up the substance. I know it is not a long time, but trust me, this is a long time for me to go without smoking and I can feel it, I know it is over. The thought of smoking is no longer an appealing one to me and I have stopped hanging out with other pot smokers in order to avoid temptation (which I dont really feel anymore. I tested myself. It is gone.) You guys helped me find empathy and sympathy for myself and my past and a desire for something better from this life, which, I believe, is the main cause for my decision to give up pot. In the new Saving a Soldier podcast Stefan said that he thinks self-knowledge is the key to quitting an addiction (I am paraphrasing here) and I believe that there is truth in that statement because I dont think I could have done this without empathy and self-knowledge, given the fact that my ACE score is 8 points! I have tried to reduce the amount I smoke and many other ways to manage my marijuana intake, but nothing worked. I kept sliding back in into my old patterns of smoking. It was last Tuesday when I was hit by an emotion which I can only describe as a catharsis of sorts. The feeling was a mix of anger and a desire to be the main actor in my own life, rather than an extra or a mere prop in my family history. I hope I am making myself clear in describing what the emotion (which led to the decision) felt like. Words dont do it justice. It was a beautiful and empowering feeling. A thousand thanks guys! Thank you, thank you, thank you! What you are doing is incredible. Keep up the amazing work.
