(A word given to my young minister students on "Encountering Christ For Yourself) Calling his disciples together, Jesus asked them what was it that other folks were saying of him. Down to a man, they all said something demonstrating that their second hand knowledge of Jesus; the opinions, conclusions and interpretations that other folks formulated were "top of the line." Unimpressed though by the obvious vicarious nature of their Christology Jesus asked them another question: "Whom say YE that I Am?" (Mark 8:29) Out of all of them, only one, Peter was able to answer correctly. Beloved, it is one thing to be able to declare what others are saying but it is an altogether greater thing to be able to declare what YOU know; what you have gained from your own personal, Holy Spirit- inspired encounter with the Christ; what John calls "the anointing" of God. (1 John 2:27) "Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you Peter," declared Jesus, "but my Father in heaven [through the Holy Ghost]." Paul the apostle hit the proverbial nail squarely upon the head when he said; "that I may know him." (Philippians 3:10) Be blessed!
