A year ago, I held her for the first time. I bathed her in tears of love before she even knew what the word was. I picked her up and placed her in the spot right between my chest and shoulder blade and there, she fell asleep. When I picked her up, the plan was to show her what love is. Every day,I would show her what love is. 12 months later, she picks me up without lifting a finger. She beatboxes with me, she yells papa when I walk out the door. She reunites me with my late sister Monique in her mannerisms. She teaches me to be patient, and to be kind, and to laugh at myself. She has redefined love.
