A year ago donors pulled out of our country and despite aid being put on hold the kwacha was gaining momentum, the economic outlook was positive and I remember around this time of the year complaining that how on earthy the pound was losing the fight to a kwacha which was about 597 exchange rate. By then it was already known that cash gate had happened and an audit was going on. But now there is no cash gate, apart from the NAC gate, and yet the kwacha is falling at a nose diving speed and the economic outlook is zero out of ten. The government has tried to give an excuse that because there are no donors but donors left a year ago and the government has tried to scapegoat its failures to cash gate, but there is no more cash gate in this new budget unless there is something beyond NAC gate. We can only attribute this woeful economic picture to lack of leadership, incompetence and failure. I think Dr Joyce Banda handled the economy better than Mutharika in my opinion.
