A year ago today..... and together with 27 rapid deployment - TopicsExpress

A year ago today..... and together with 27 rapid deployment emergency health expats, we arrived Samar for one of the biggest typhoon humanitarian operations the Philippines witnessed. The mission was one of the most challenging I ever encountered but one of the most sweetest-rewarding pain I have experienced. I arrived Guiuan, Eastern Samar-first ground zero/landfall area- at 7:00 pm 11/25/13 and every single place was in chaos, obliterated and in pitch dark (only our office had flickering unstable lights due to generator we brought in). I was not issued a mosquito dome tent as it ran out of supplies. Yes... Tired and sticky, hungry and road lagged, I braced for hardships, and as my thoughts became reality and reality of the situation unfolding right in front of me, I slept that night on a cold floor in a cramped room with blood thirst mosquitoes serenading the whole night and feasting on my Type A RH plus sangre. The room was shared with other 5 colleagues from other departments as every single space in the badly damaged hotel turned our office were fully occupied.... This was the scenario then and present day set up (before and after series).. Reminiscing and looking back at my experience a year ago today...... loving those memories... and it made me more resilient and battle ready...stay calm and carry on.....
