A young man left my office very upset with me. He was asking for a hand-out. When I told him I couldnt help him he got very upset and told me he was entitled to some of the money in this church. (He doesnt attend nor has he ever attended here.) I told him that when my step-father died, I was very young and knew my mom needed help. Every morning I would get up around 2 am and help her on the farm. Then go to the Piggly Wiggly and stock produce before school. After school I would work at the Pig three or four days a week and on the days I was off I would go to work at Thompson Farm supply unloading car boxes. At 5:30 I would go to the Pal theater in Vidalia and run the projectors until the last showing. On weekends I either worked at the radio station in Vidalia or on the dairy farm. I would give my mother all the money I made so that my sisters would be alright. I did this until I got married and had a family of my own. I told him I did not look for a hand-out but a way out. I dont mind helping people but not giving to habits or to people who us others for gain because they are just to sorry to work.
