A3N v Pine Rivers at Paul Jackson Oval When I arrived early at the ground, the mower was ripping around and the blade level looked set on -4... Needless to say, the outfield looked sparse and fast... Excellent day to win the toss and bat... Precisely the thinking of Pine Rivers with my 9th toss loss this season. Toiled hard early and surprisingly had gone for very few runs when the bowling change of Russell Fenwick brought the early wicket... Again the bowlers bent their backs for little success until the ever cagey Rowdy Johnston came on and picked up two wickets in an over... We went to tea 3/170 off 43 overs. After tea, Anthony Davis picked up a well earned wicket then Joel Kelly picked up their opener for a well made 125 and followed it up two balls later with his second wicket in the over... Drinks and we had them 6/240. The period straight after drinks was hectic, started with a single pushed to mid wicket where Paul the Panther Carrigan, pounced on one and his direct hit found the batsmen just short of his ground. Next over Phil Calcutt, needing to dash early gave one last effort with the ball and took middle and off poles. I sensed a couple of easy chances with the tail in and we ended the innings next over with two straight (ish) balls. A good effort by all to restrict them to 254 off 64.4 overs with that wicket. We had a min of 6 overs to bat and Darian Law and Paul Carrigan went out with purpose, Darian striking the ball excellently for a 2 then 4 first two deliveries... Paul got a rising ball that he couldnt get out of the way and gloved through to keeper. Darians adventurous innings ended 2 overs later off a similar delivery and we closed the day out on 2/32. Still a lot to do to take this one the distance but all the guys applied themselves 100% out there today. Davo would have saved 40 runs with his athleticism and on three occasions his pick up and throw hit the stumps. Bring on next week guys, if we bat the time we win the match, I think we have the skills to take this one home. Good effort and bring on next Saturday.
