AAMFT has been working with U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) on military and veteran mental-health issues such as suicide prevention. On Oct. 24, Sen. Donnelly sponsored a briefing for Congressional staff on military and veteran mental-health issues, including speakers pictured here from the Office of the Army Surgeon General, Purdue University, UCLA, and the RAND Corporation. Among speakers’ key points was the importance of military and veteran families, who are also affected by the behavioral disorder of the military member or veteran, and are potential facilitators of that person’s clinical improvement. AAMFT staff attended this presentation and was invited to work further with Sen. Donnelly’s staff on these issues.
