AAP moots mother of Kargil martyr for Hamirpur seat Aam Aadmi Party activists here who have revolted against the party’s decision to field a former BJP leader from Kangra are now upbeat with the idea of fielding Kargil martyr Vikram Batra’s mother Kamal Kanta Batra from Hamirpur against BJYM president Anurag Thakur. The fielding of Kamal Kanta Batra, mother of the Param Vir Chakra awardee, in the constituency, which has a decisive strength of serving and ex-servicemen, can help the party, say the activists who forwarded her name to the central party leadership in Delhi. On the other hand, opposition to Rajan Sushant’s name to fight from Kangra continues. Mr. Sushant, Bharatiya Janata Party’s disgruntled leader, was the first AAP candidate to be declared for the Lok Sabha election. “If someone has to be sent from the party high command from Delhi then how are we different from the BJP and the Congress,” asked Aman Guleria, Kangra district convener of the AAP. Most of the party members from the Kangra constituency have expressed surprise and demanded review of the nomination of Sushant. A known protégé of senior political leader Shanta Kumar, who is now the BJP candidate from Kangra, Mr. Sushant had revolted against his own government in 1998-2003 when he was Revenue Minister. The BJP government became minority and was saved after intervention by the central party leadership and Mr. Shanta Kumar. “Ours is not a forum or a refuge meant for disgruntled politicians of the BJP or the Congress but a new organisation of clean and honest people who want to serve the State,” say AAP workers.
