ABANDONED BABY RESCUED IN ALAUSA The Lagos State Government has, through the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), rescued a baby with Down Syndrome abandoned besides the Bagauda Kaltho Press Center at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja. According to an eye witness, Mrs. Nathan Nash, a Director in the Office of Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, explained that her attention was drawn to the abandoned baby by another staff in her office, adding that after observing for a while that no one went near the baby placed beside a bus in front of the Press Centre, she was forced to report the case to the Ministry. Fielding question from press men, Director, Child Development, in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Alaba Fadairo said the child would be taken to the special home run by the government to ensure his protection and survival. She emphasized that every child is important to the State Government and that is why professionals are employed to take care of these special children in the home on a daily basis. Advising parents with similar babies that abandonment is not the solution to the problem, Fadairo noted that every child should be given equal opportunity for survival and development, and each child needs adequate parental care and love for healthy growth and development.
