ABATE of Michigan Region 5 Meeting Minutes June 9, 2013 Meeting called to order at 2:03 pm Pledge of allegiance led by George Prayer led by Tina H Officer Reports Val – Nothing to report John R – Treasurer report, we are doing better than last year Tiny – Have you noticed how warm and sunny spring has been? Watch out for suicidal critters Chuck – Reported about eleven new/renew memberships. Announced that there were funds left from the donations for new member discount, would like to use that to go to Corley and hand out fliers/brochures. * Motion to use funds to allow Chuck to promote our organization at event / 2nd - Approved Tina E – Getting feedback from male members for shirt color choices, besides black/grey. Consensus is orange, button-down, sleeveless. Pastor Wes requested pink – until told he would be required to wear them. Request withdrawn Sign-up sheets to help at product booth during Muskegon Bike Time. 2 hour shifts. Advised that monies are allotted to buy new product for MBT. * Motion to increase that amount / 2nd – Approved Request for four bag chairs to be donated or bought – to put in supply trailer – in order to not have to carry personal chairs for events. Member request that they be sized for ‘the big guys’ * Motion to purchase chairs for MBT, if they are not donated prior – 2nd - Approved Noted by Tina – Sandy Corley is this coming weekend – Tina and Larry will be going early (THURSDAY) to rope off site area. If anyone wants to camp in that area, they need to let Tina know how large an area they need. Tina H – Not much to report. Please help Volunteer. Ed – Motorcycle plate issue at the capitol. It was proposed to raise the price of Motorcycle Plates to be based on the value of the motorcycle / at the lowest was to be 92% of your first payment. Our State Officers met with our Legislators and told them that this proposal was WAY out of line. The bottom line is that after a teleconference, the cost Will be going up, but a modest amount, With a plan that a Percentage of the increase will be going back to Motorcycle Safety. The State Rider Training courses will also have an increased fee due to them being not cost effective. The fee is expected to rise to $50, still a great savings over the private courses. We have it on good authority that SMARTER is also concerned about some of the same legislative issues, anyone want to try to get them to work with us? Cooter – Newaygo County is having races at Bridgeton today. George – We still need AC’s for both Oceana and Lake county, anyone interested? MBT campground: our contract for the campground has been approved for anther two years. The lease will be void if the property is sold or we break the lease. Campers will be allowed to Shower at the YMCA across the road – for $3 – if they have a wristband. Volunteers who work Eight hours will be given free camping for the weekend (tent camping is included, RV’s are additional). If these volunteers are using an RV, then the nightly rate for the RV will be half price. Parking will be $5 per Day – no matter if it is a car or a motorcycle. We will also be sponsoring the Sheriff Department Motor Division, to help fund their motorcycles. These are leased and then outfitted for the department at the county expense. Victor is preparing the Burn-out Pit, some funds are required for tires (unless we have a donation) and for new chocks.
