ABC News - which I slavishly watch, of course - often displeases me. Sometimes in an appallingly unsubtle and unbalanced way, it favours Labor over Liberals, Greens over Labor, Labor Left over Labor Right, Liberal Left over Liberal Right etc., in a manner I believe is utterly inconsistent with its legal obligations and that ultimately undermines public confidence in and bi-partisan support for publicly-funded broadcasting. With private-sector news-gathering and publishing under siege, this is no small problem, which no ABC board appointments, on their own, can fix. But this interview by Emma Alberici was pretty damn good, better, much better, much more pointed and tough than anyone on Fox News, on a good day. Why small-l liberals or some in the Left and nearly all Greens have been so keen to make excuses for or fail to confront a far-right misogynist intolerant violent ideology (that falsely claims a religion as belonging to it) is something Ill never understand. That there are voices in the ABC willing to speak up against this new brand of fascism is encouraging. More need to do so. abc.net.au/lateline/content/2014/s4103227.htm
